About us

The Eastern Region is one of the most prosperous in the UK, with high levels of employment, and a life expectancy above the national average. However, there are hidden disparities and inequalities. The population of 5.6 million is ageing, with a higher than average proportion of people over 65; and expanding, with a population expected to grow by 11% over the next 15 years.

Our future challenges

As more people need long term care, and the incidence of chronic conditions grow, huge challenges and demands are put on the nursing and caring resources in our region. The cultural diversity of the region is growing and changing, and a significant number of people find it difficult to access health and social services.

Support from the regional team

Whatever the demands and challenges on our nurses and carers the RCN Eastern regional team is here to provide support for our 34,000 members.  Contact the regional team in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk where we will be pleased to hear from you and help you with any queries you may have.

Your local branch

Wherever you work in the eastern region you belong to one of our six RCN branches in Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire or Hertfordshire. The elected representatives who form the branch executive organise local services and meetings.

The Eastern Board and Council

Your county branch and the area of your nursing practice are also represented by your RCN Eastern Board of elected members. The Board plays a key role in the creation of the RCN in the east.

Each region has a voice on the RCN Council which is the governing body responsible for setting the RCN's priorities, objectives and policies.
