The next Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire county conference will be held on Friday 07 June 2013

The Francis Report and the implications for nursing locally is the theme of the day. The format will be to look at nursing post-Francis from three perspectives, with presentations to facilitate discussions:

  • Mental Health Care - Paul Rix, Associate Locality Director for Mental Health, Central Bedfordshire
  • General Care - Nina Fraser, Director of Nursing, Bedford Hospital NHS Trust
  • Commissioning Care - Julie Juliff, Network Programme Manager (Quality), Hertfordshire

The presentations will be in the morning with Herts and Beds Branch business meetings in the afternoon. The morning session is open to all RCN members and the lunch and afternoon session is for accredited RCN activists only. The Novotel Stevenage is the venue on Friday 07 June from 10am to 4pm. Registration and refreshments will be available from 9.30am.

Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire county conference held on Friday 07 December 2012

We were fortunate to have two speakers at this event. The Principles of Nursing Practice (PDF 1513KB) an interactive learning activity was facilitated by Ruth Burey, Learning and Development Facilitator in the RCN Institute. Nursing challenges and nursing leadership: playing your part in quality care enhancements (PDF 175KB), was facilitated by Chris Wilkinson, Chief Nurse and Jo Bennis, Deputy Chief Nurse at Peterborough City Hospital.

Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire county conference held on 20 April 2012

RCN Eastern Region Communications Officer, Andrew Stronach, gave a presentation on how best to exploit media opportunities (PDF 753KB) [how to access PDF files]and offered insights into the wider media activity of the RCN regionally and nationally.

The second theme surrounded the RCN Professional Function, promoting quality standards relating to the principle of nursing practice. Using tissue viability as a case study example, Eiri Jones, Director of Nursing at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust gave a presentation (PDF 453 KB) about her corporate role of being accountable for clinical standards to the Trust board. She shared her experiences as an adviser to the NMC about how professional regulation holds nurses to account when standards are breached.

Kellie Norris, Eastern Region Primary Care and Independent Sector Adviser, updated the group on The Health Bill and consequent changes in Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire (PDF 344KB).
