Health care assistants, alive and well and increasing in Eastern Region

It is fantastic to report that the Eastern Region has seen an incredible increase in health care assistants wanting to join the RCN. The region is carrying out a number of new initiatives in 2010 as well as retaining the current two hours free professional development session in connection with the RCN Dignity campaign as well as personal learning.

Health care assistant training events

If you would like the RCN to provide a training opportunity for you and your colleagues within your workplace or nursing home then please contact the regional office and we can set up a training event for you and your colleagues. The favourite topics are dignity, nutrition, accountability and record keeping. Contact Jenna Williams by email: jenna.williams@rcn.org.uk or telephone: 01284 717717.

New initiative with the Open University

The RCN in association with the Open University will also be providing free 'lunch and learn' events for all registered nurses, health care assistants and students. Topics covered on the day will be:

  • exploring and developing your dignity issues
  • examples of good practice
  • tools to support influencing for dignity
  • accountability.

The meetings will be facilitated by an Open University lecturer and will provide an opportunity for RCN members to meet with colleagues and RCN staff to promote the values of the RCN and support local health care assistants.

The Cambridgeshire Branch recently supported a local 'lunch and learn' event at Sawston near Cambridge for community HCAs. The training was provided by the Regional Officer Tony Durcan who led a discussion on Dignity in Care.

For more information on the 'lunch and learn' initiative please keep an eye on this page or contact Tony Durcan: jenna.williams@rcn.org.uk.
