RCN East Midlands
Introduction
The RCN East Midlands region provides representation, advice and professional support services for RCN members in the counties of Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.
We aim to deliver a high standard of services and support to RCN members throughout the East Midlands.
Regional staff and local representatives work to help nurses and health care assistants in the NHS and independent sector by providing support with difficulties they face in the workplace and assisting them to deliver high quality patient care.

Critical Thinking: Looking Beyond the Routine

'Critical Thinking: Looking Beyond the Routine' is, as the name suggests, a critical care conference hosted by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust but which is open to anyone from the East Midlands.
The provisional programme includes:
- marly mobilisation of patients in ITU
- errors of judgement
- delirium in the critical care patient
- management of laprastomas
- therapeutic hypothermia revisited

Practical Paediatric Allergy Study Day

This Practical Paediatric Allergy Study Day will cover a range of conditions in paediatric allergy, as well as the latest developments in treatment, and is designed for doctors and nurses in primary and secondary care, health visitors and dieticians.
Provisional topics to include:
- dietary treatment of allergic presentations
- respiratory allergies
- food challenges – practical advice
- nutritional adequacy of exclusion diets
- colourants and preservatives
- vaccines and allergy
- oral tolerance Induction
- new allergy tests
Provisional workshops in:
- adrenaline autoinjectors
- skin prick tests
- antihistamines and nasal sprays
The event is open to anyone in the East Midlands region, and the registration fee will include lunch, refreshments and manual. Fees are: Doctors £100.00, nurses and PAMS: £75.00.

All calls to the Nottingham office main number automatically go through to advisers at RCN Direct, who are the first point of contact for members' queries and cases.
Every member whose case is referred to the Nottingham office by RCN Direct is then given a direct contact number for the team dealing with their case.
This system enables the RCN to provide a more efficient service to members who call the RCN for assistance. RCN Direct resolves 95 per cent of members' queries at first contact without the need to refer the member to the regional office.
