Independent sector

Many nurses and health care support workers enjoy varied and fulfilling careers working in the independent health care sector. In fact, around a quarter of the RCN's members work in the independent sector.

If you work in the independent sector, the RCN in the East Midlands is committed to supporting your employment and professional development needs.

We liaise with many organisations to discuss the role of the RCN, trade union recognition and the values of partnership working. We have a large virtual distribution network and hold quarterly meetings at the regional office in Nottingham to discuss issues relating to the independent sector.

The region has successful recognition agreements with St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, BMI hospitals and the Nuffield hospitals and works with many more organisations in partnership.

Jennifer Doohan, the region's project development officer, supports, advises and delivers bespoke training sessions and courses to the independent sector. These sessions are well attended and valuable to all grades of health care workers and, ultimately, the patients they care for.

If you wish to discuss any aspects of the RCN's support for members working in the independent sector, please contact RCN Direct on 0345 772 6100.
