About us
RCN London represents 52,000 nursing staff across the capital in a wide range of health care settings - from acute hospitals and primary care to mental health and GP practices.
We represent nursing staff in their workplace and support their professional development. Above all we want the voice of nursing to be heard across the capital, particularly at a time of major challenges to our profession and to health care in general.
The challenge of London
London is home to more than seven million people from a huge diversity of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. More than 300 different languages are spoken and health care professionals are caring for a constantly shifting population. This makes London an exciting but also a challenging place to work. That is why support from the RCN is so important to our members. The picture to the right shows RCN members in London marching in support of the NHS.
Your RCN London team
Based in the heart of London in Gray's Inn Road, WC1, RCN London has a small office team and regional staff organised into five sectors. Each sector is staffed by RCN officers, assistant officers and an administrator. We also have pan-London staff covering such areas as legal support and nursing development.
At national level RCN London is represented by two RCN Council members, Andy McGovern and Ian Norris. At local level the RCN has a network of branches, two for each sector, as well as stewards, health and safety representatives and learning representatives, based in individual sites, such as hospitals and primary care trusts.

Contacting us by telephone
All calls to the London office main number automatically go through to skilled advisers at RCN Direct, who are the first point of contact for members' queries and cases. All calls will be charged at the local rate.
Every member whose case is referred to the London office by RCN Direct is then given a direct contact number for the team dealing with their case.
This system enables the RCN to provide a more efficient service to members who call the RCN for assistance. RCN Direct resolves 95 per cent of members' queries at first contact without the need to refer the member to the regional office.
Fax transmissions and emails are received direct by the London office via the contact details above.

London regional board - representing you
Our Board is made up of RCN London members, chaired by one of our two Council members (who sit on the RCN's national governing Council). Its role is to represent members' interests in such areas as policy and objectives. Members usually serve for a two to eight year period.
All London members are warmly invited to attend the London Board meetings and to raise issues in the 'open space' part of each meeting.
All meetings take place from 2pm to 5pm at the RCN Regional Office, 9th Floor, 236 Gray's Inn Road.
