What is OUT! of London?
OUT! of London is a group for Royal College of Nursing (RCN) members who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).
We aim to act as a support group for RCN members, as well as improving the working lives of LGBT within the healthcare setting by participating in government consultations, and educating employers in legislation and the experiences of LGBT staff. We also aim to promote and improve patient and client care delivery by producing guidance documents for RCN members in relation to the specific healthcare needs of LGBT patients and clients.
Since its inception at Congress 2002, the group has been involved in a range of work which has helped to influence the working lives of members and delivery of care for patients and clients who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Not "just" a friend: best practice guidance on health care for lesbian, gay and bisexual service users and their families
The RCN has produced a 'best practice' guide (PDF 153KB) [see how to access PDF files] for those providing health care for lesbian, gay and bisexual service users and their families. The guide was produced jointly with UNISON and is endorsed by the College of Occupational Therapists, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Royal College of Midwives, and the Society of Radiographers. Membership of OUT! of London
The group was first established by the RCN London region for RCN members living or working in London. However, we have recently joined up with the South East Region and we welcome RCN members from throughout the UK.
We meet at the RCN head office in London, and our meetings usually run from 6.00pm to 7.30pm every other month with a rotating programme of events and guest speakers.
We produce email bulletins for those with email.
