Terms and Conditions: Northern Region Full Member Recruitment Initiative
"Full Member"
By "Full Member" we mean a member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) who is either a qualified nurse or midwife and who, at least 12 months previously, has registered a nursing or midwifery or specialist community public health nursing qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and as a result is on one or more of parts of the current NMC register.
"Recruiter"
By "recruiter" we mean an existing member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) who, on 1 September 2009, was a member of any of the five branches of the RCN Northern Region (North of Tyne branch, South of Tyne and Wear branch, Cumbria branch, Durham and Darlington branch or Tees Valley branch).
"Applicant"
By "applicant" we mean a person who is applying to join the RCN under this initiative.
"Initiative"
By "Northern Region Full Member Recruitment Initiative" (or "initiative") we mean a scheme open to existing members of the RCN Northern region to encourage recruitment of new members of the RCN Northern Region at "full member" rate. Members who recruit at least two new members to the RCN and who meet additional criteria as articulated in these terms and conditions may be rewarded with a one year credit to a subsequent year's membership of the RCN. Other than the membership benefits as articulated at there are no other incentives for the new applicants themselves under this initiative.
Persons who can recruit under this initiative
For the purposes of this recruitment initiative, any current member of any of the five branches of the RCN Northern Region (North of Tyne branch, South of Tyne and Wear branch, Cumbria branch, Durham and Darlington branch or Tees Valley branch) between 1 September 2009 and 31 March 2010.
Completion of application forms
In order to be considered under this scheme, recruiters must recruit members using the "Northern Region Full Member Recruitment Initiative" form. Recruiters are responsible for ensuring that forms are completed fully and accurately, and the recruiter's full name, email and membership number must appear at the top of each form. If, in the opinion of either the RCN Regional Office or RCN Direct, the application forms have not been completed in a complete and correct manner, the RCN reserves the right to reject the application.
Operational timeframe for recruitment initiative
Applications for full membership under this initiative will only be considered during the period 1 September 2009 - 31 March 2010. Any applications received by the RCN Regional Office outside of this period will be processed as standard full member applications, but the recruiter will not be eligible for any membership credit.
Membership applicants
Only those persons who are eligible to be recruited at "Full Member" rate and who either live or work within the geographic boundary of the RCN Northern region may be recruited under this initiative. Recruiters are responsible for undertaking due diligence to ensure that applicants appear to meet this criteria.
Existing members of the Royal College of Nursing whose membership ceases during the period 1 September 2009 - 31 March 2010 are not eligible to re-apply for membership under this initiative, although they may renew subject to the standard conditions of membership available to all members.
Exising members of the Royal College of Nursing whose membership is due for renewal during the period 1 September 2009 - 31 March 2010 may not renew their membership under this initiative, although they may renew subject to the standard conditions of membership available to all members.
Full member recruitment rate under this initiative
Members may only be recruited at the RCN's "Full Member" rate under this initiative. As of January 2009, this was £15.80 per month or £189.67 when paid by Direct Debit. The RCN may revise the "Full Member" rate at any time. The new rate will apply to any members recruited on or after the date of any revision to the "Full Member" rate.
Members recruited under this initiative
Members recruited are not eligible for a partial or full membership credit or any other RCN membership reward or incentive, other than those entitlements which form a part of regular full membership, under this initiative.
Payment methods
Members recruited under this initiative may only join using Direct Debit as their method of payment.
Application forms
Application forms will only be made available in electronic PDF format, and distributed via an email from the RCN Northern Region. Individual members are responsible for printing or photocopying copies of the form. Paper copies of the form will not be available from the RCN.
One year membership credit
By "One year membership credit" we mean a credit applied to the following year's membership to the equivalent value of the current full membership rate as on the subsequent renewal date. No cash alternative is available.
Eligibility for membership credit
If the recruiter has:
- recruited a minimum of two new members at "Full Member" rate under the terms of this initiative, and
- if at least two of these new members have remained in "Full Member" rate for at least six months following their recruitment under this initiative, and
- if these new members are not in membership arrears at the end of this six month period,
then the recruiter will be eligible for a one year membership credit as defined by these Terms and Conditions.
Only the recruiter, and not the recruited member may be eligible for any membership credit, and only then if (s)he meets the eligibility for membership credit criteria as defined above.
A maximum of one membership credit per recruiter may be applied, and the sole discretion regarding the application of any membership credit lies with the RCN.

All completed membership forms under this initiative should be returned to: Royal College of Nursing, New Members, FREEPOST NEA4803 Sunderland SR5 3BR.
Miscellaneous
These terms and conditions are in addition to the rules governing membership of the RCN, as articulated in the RCN Charter, RCN Bye-Laws and RCN Rules pages in the governance section of the RCN website.
The RCN may revise the terms and conditions of this initiative, or withdraw the initiative at any time.
There are no cash alternatives available for any aspect of this initiative.
In areas of dispute, the decision of the Director of the RCN Northern Region will be final.
