RCN South East

Helen Willetts and Sharon Dennis, SE Regional Co-Directors

We are facing some exciting new changes in the South East, all changes that you can be part of and have your say in! These changes involve nominations to the South East Regional Board and to the branch boundaries.

Board

Nominations for the vacant board positions closed in August. If an election is necessary you will automatically receive your ballot papers in the post, the closing date of which is 13 October 2008. Make sure you have your say on who represents you on the board.

Branches

The board, following a recommendation from Council, have reviewed the current branch boundaries. The proposed reconfiguration would see 19 branches across our region. This is an open consultation and these are your branches. Please respond to the consultation which ends on 14 October 2008, full details are available on the branches pages.

Diversity

We were proud to be representing the RCN Brighton Pride for the first time in August. We spoke to thousands of people and it felt great to be directly supporting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Nurses, Health Care Assistants and RCN members.

The South East Region is always interested in suggestions from RCN members on how best to develop our diversity agenda. We will be setting up a Diversity Champions e-circulation list for any SE specific diversity work and are very keen to hear from you if you would like us to develop specific pieces of work on any aspect of the diversity agenda. Please look at our diversity pages for how to contact us.

Membership

Spread the word. Did you know that both registered nurses and health care assistants are eligible for RCN membership? Do you have a colleague who could benefit from membership? We want to ensure we truly are the voice of nursing, with our membership representative of our nursing community, locally and nationally.

Please spread the word about the benefits of RCN membership – support, guidance, insurance, legal advice, learning and development opportunities not to mention discounts and networking opportunities. For more details about RCN membership, please point your colleagues in the direction of www.rcn.org.uk/membership
