Glyn Scott biography
Nursing background
"I qualified as a registered nurse in 1998 and spent 18 months working in the Medical Admissions Unit before becoming a senior staff nurse in an acute medical ward. Critical care then beckoned where I spent time working in an Intensive Care Unit, and three years as a critical care outreach charge nurse. I then had the opportunity to spend three years as a modern matron for adult medicine responsible for a number of wards and education and training.
I now work as a clinical nurse specialist in nutrition which is extremely rewarding as this role brings many challenges.
I obtained my BSc (Hons) in Acute Care in 2004 and I am now on my way to completing my MSc in Advanced Nursing.
I am particularly interested in the education and development of staff, particularly students and newly qualified nurses. I am also heavily involved in the clinical supervision of staff and am presently supervising four senior nurses.
Royal College of Nursing
I have been an active steward for three years and also Chair of the Staff Side Committee. I am also an active member of the National Steering Group for the Practice Education Forum and I am also secretary of the Medway Branch of the RCN. Attending RCN Congress in 2007 enabled me to obtain an awareness of the inner workings of the RCN.
Other interests
I am a cub leader and rugby coach at my local club in my spare time, and also enjoy my role as a steward at Twickenham. I am researching my family tree, and enjoy visiting family in the west coast of Ireland with a large pint of the black stuff!"
