"I am an RGN and have BSc (Hons) in Specialist Practice in the Community, my field of expertise being district nursing.

I have worked in a variety of health care settings, including the private sector and am currently working for Crawley Primary Care Trust as an integrated team leader incorporating modern matron role.

I have been an RCN member for 32 years and an activist for the last five. Currently I am steward, safety and learning representative and have recently joined the Diversity Group to promote understanding of 'difference'.

I am a South East Regional Board member representing Sussex and Surrey. I was a complete novice when first elected, but since then it has been a steep learning curve and I have benefited tremendously from the many learning opportunities provided by the RCN as part of the Board Development Programme.

I am expected to have an understanding of the RCN UK-wide strategy, policy and priorities and work collaboratively and support the Regional Director and South East team. In addition, my role includes effective communications with members, activists and RCN staff and working closely with my fellow Board members in developing objectives and setting priorities for the Region

Perhaps most important of all however, I have not lost sight of the fact I have been elected to represent the interest of members, and expressing their views, issues and concerns to the RCN South East Regional Board is fundamental to my role. I sincerely hope to be able to make a difference and remain effective in my role as an RCN Board member.
