Continuing professional development events in 2013
The RCN South West region is delighted to be running a series of continuing professional development events for students, health care assistants and assistant practitioners, and registered nurses throughout 2013. The events will be based on This is Nursing and explore good practice and the barriers nurses and health care support workers face in trying to deliver high quality dignified care.

Learning event for students:
The RCN South West region student learning event will take place on the following date:
27 June: University Hospitals Bristol, Education Centre, Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol, BS2 8AE.

Learning events for health care assistants and assistant practitioners:
The RCN South West region learning events for health care assistants and assistant practitioners will take place on the following dates:
30 April: Sandford Education Centre, Keynsham Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL53 7PX.
3 July: Buckerell Lodge, Topsham Road, Exeter, EX2 4SQ.
5 November: Cornwall (venue to follow).
These events will enable health care support workers to review their own practice; in particular, in relation to the importance of dignity and respect and how these principles enhance the patient experience, as well as enabling them to explain and understanding their own accountability and recognise their role in care provision.
The events will also enable health care workers to identify sources of support and appropriate resources to facilitate their own development. They will also help them to develop an individual action plan to support ongoing development as a practitioner.

Learning events for registered nurses:
The RCN South West learning events for registered nurses will take place on the following dates:
15 May: Top Floor Restaurant, Dean Court Football Club, Dean Court, Kings Park, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH7 7AF.
24 October: The Canalside, Marsh Lane, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 6LQ.
These events will enable registered nurses to review their own practice; in particular, in relation to the importance of dignity and respect and how these principles enhance the patient experience, as well as enabling them to explain and understanding their own accountability and recognise their role in care provision.
The events will also enable registered nurses to understand the fundamental role of record keeping as part of patient care, and to understand and develop their own role as a ‘leader’. The events will also help registered nurses to develop an individual action plan to support their ongoing development as a practitioner.
