The RCNís What If...? campaign on NHS pay is going strong in the south west. We now want to build a network of pay campaign champions who can spread the word to colleagues and friends in every workplace in the south west.

Nursing staff from the RCN South West Region joined a 90,000-strong procession in London protesting against poor public sector pay at the TUC march 'Britain needs a pay rise'.

RCN South West Council member Margaret North chaired the Older Peopleís Forum fringe event 'Older people experiencing frailty' at RCN Congress on Thursday 19 June. The event, lead by South West nurses Helen Lyndon and Frazer Underwood, focused on understanding frailty and how older people might experience it.

Nursing staff from across the South West region took part in a Day of Action on 5 June 2014 in protest at the Governmentís recent decision to ignore the Pay Review Bodyís recommendation on their pay.

On 5 June the RCN will be joining with other health unions across the country to take part in a day of protest at the Governmentís decision to refuse a 1% pay rise to most NHS staff. This does not only affect those of you employed by the NHS, this erosion of pay terms and conditions will be reflected in the independent sector, where many organisations are already refusing to honour even this inadequate pay award. It is time to stand together and protect health care staff pay.

The RCN, with other health unions from across the region, has responded to a leaked document which details plans for 16 NHS Trusts to create a consortium aimed at changing nationally agreed terms and conditions of staff.
