Every member of the Royal College of Nursing is affiliated to their local RCN branch.

If you are a member affiliated to the Birmingham West and Sandwell branch - and you can check which is your local branch on your RCN membership card - you can take advantage of opportunities to meet fellow members, discuss issues of local interest and concern and take part in events and activities aimed at promoting your professional development.

Meetings and Local Learning Events in 2013

The RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell branch has scheduled its branch members’ meetings and Local Learning Events for 2013.

The events are bite-sized chunks of development and learning that last no more than 90 minutes. By attending, you contribute to your CPD, and you receive a certificate of attendance for your portfolio.

The events are free for RCN members and £25 for non-members. The cost for non-members is redeemable upon applying for RCN membership on the day.

You will need to book your place on the Local Learning Events. To reserve a place, please email westmidlands.region@rcn.org.uk or call 0121 450 4300.

RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell members' meeting and 'The RCN Principles of Nursing Practice' workshop
Wednesday 6 February

Starts: 2pm
Venue: Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham, B4 6NH

This workshop will be presented by Linda Watterson, Programme Manager for the RCN's 'Evaluating & Improving' project, and will be followed by an RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell members' meeting.

RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell Local Learning Event - 'Breaking barriers and changing lives' workshop
Wednesday 17 April

Starts: 2pm
Venue: The Committee Room, Edward Street Hospital, Edward Street, Sandwell, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B70 8NL

This Local Learning Event will be presented by Nursing Standard’s Nurse of the Year, Johanne Tomlinson. 

RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell members' meeting and 'Prevention of falls' workshop
Wednesday 12 June

Starts: 2pm
Venue: Wolfson Lecture Theatre, Postgraduate Centre, City Hospital, Dudley Road, Birmingham, B18 7QH

The speaker for this Local Learning Event will be Alison Doyle, Falls and Fracture Prevention Nurse Specialist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The workshop will be followed by an RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell members' meeting.

RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell Local Learning Event - 'The role and training of Assistant Practitioners' workshop
Wednesday 7 August

Starts: 2pm
Venue: West Bromwich (exact location to be confirmed)

This workshop will be presented by Mark Wareing, Senior Lecturer in Health and Social Care at Birmingham City University.

RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell Annual General Meeting and ‘NHS Safety Thermometer – harm free patient care’ workshop
Wednesday 2 October

Venue: The Ann Gibson Committee Room, Birmingham City Hospital, Dudley Road, Birmingham, B18 7QH

This Local Learning Event will be delivered by Dr Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, Director of Nursing at Health Education England.

Michael Brown, a police inspector with the West Midlands Police and winner of The Mark Hanson new media award at the Mind Media Awards 2012 for his blog 'Mental Health Cop', will also be giving a presentation at this event.

The RCN Birmingham West and Sandwell branch would also like to invite all its members to attend their Annual General Meeting, where they will be able to:

Any member can stand for election to a position on the branch executive committee, and if they are elected they will play a leading role in the organisation and development of the RCN's services and activities in Birmingham West and Sandwell.
