Every member of the Royal College of Nursing is affiliated to their local RCN branch.
If you are a member affiliated to the North Staffordshire branch - and you can check which is your local branch on your RCN membership card - you can take advantage of opportunities to meet fellow members, discuss issues of local interest and concern and take part in events and activities aimed at promoting your professional development.

Meetings and Local Learning Events in 2013
The RCN North Staffordshire branch has scheduled its branch members’ meetings and Local Learning Events for 2013.
The events are bite-sized chunks of development and learning that last no more than 90 minutes. By attending, you contribute to your CPD, and you receive a certificate of attendance for your portfolio.
The events are free for RCN members and £25 for non-members. The cost for non-members is redeemable upon applying for RCN membership on the day.
You will need to book your place on the Local Learning Events. To reserve a place, please email westmidlands.region@rcn.org.uk or call 0121 450 4300.

RCN North Staffordshire members' meeting and ‘Medicines optimisation’ workshop
Thursday 14 February
Starts: 1.30pm
Venue: Healthcare Careers & Skills Academy, University Hospital of North Staffordshire, Newcastle Road, Stoke, ST4 6QG
This workshop will be presented by Andrew Riley, Strategic Lead for Medicines Management, Staffordshire and Shropshire, and will be followed by an RCN North Staffordshire members' meeting.
RCN North Staffordshire Local Learning Event - 'Nutrition and hydration' workshop

Venue: Room GF5, Healthcare Careers & Skills Academy, University Hospital of North Staffordshire, Newcastle Road, Stoke, ST4 6QG
The speaker for this Local Learning Event will be dietitian Lesley Russell, the team leader for nutrition and dietetic services at University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
RCN North Staffordshire members' meeting and ‘Pressure ulcer care’ workshop

Venue: Lecture Room, Haywood Hospital, High Lane, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 7AG
This Local Learning Event will be presented by Sian Fumarola, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Tissue Viability, University Hospital of North Staffordshire, and will be followed by an RCN North Staffordshire members' meeting.
RCN North Staffordshire Local Learning Event - 'The SHINE Heart Failure project' workshop

The speaker for this event will be James Rushton, Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist at University Hospital North Staffordshire.
RCN North Staffordshire Annual General Meeting and 'Dignity in care' workshop
Thursday 17 October
Starts: 1.30pm
Venue: to be confirmed
This Local Learning Event will be presented by Dr Wilf McSherry, Professor in Dignity of Care for Older People at Staffordshire University. The RCN North Staffordshire branch also invites all members to attend their Annual General Meeting, where they will be able to:
- contribute to discussions about the branch's priorities for the coming year
- elect the branch executive committee
- ratify the accreditation of local RCN representatives
Any member can stand for election to a position on the branch executive committee, and if they are elected they will play a leading role in the organisation and development of the RCN's services and activities in North Staffordshire.
