If you are a member affiliated to the Shropshire branch - and you can check which is your local branch on your RCN membership card - you can take advantage of opportunities to meet fellow members, discuss issues of local interest and concern and take part in events and activities aimed at promoting your professional development.

Meetings and Local Learning Events in 2013
The RCN Shropshire branch has scheduled its branch members’ meetings and Local Learning Events for 2013.
The events are bite-sized chunks of development and learning that last no more than 90 minutes. By attending, you contribute to your CPD, and you receive a certificate of attendance for your portfolio.
The events are free for RCN members and £25 for non-members. The cost for non-members is redeemable upon applying for RCN membership on the day.
You will need to book your place on the Local Learning Events. To reserve a place, please email westmidlands.region@rcn.org.uk or call 0121 450 4300.

RCN Shropshire members' meeting and 'Medicines optimisation' workshop
Wednesday 30 January
Starts: 1pm
Venue: Oswestry Health Centre, Thomas Savin Road, Oswestry, SY11 1GA
This Local Learning Event will be presented by Andrew Riley, Strategic Lead for Medicines Management, Staffordshire and Shropshire. The workshop will be followed by an RCN Shropshire members’ meeting.
RCN Shropshire Local Learning Event - ‘Dignity in care’ workshop

Starts: 2pm
Venue: The Uplands at Oxon Care Home, Clayton Way, Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, SY3 8GA
This Local Learning Event will be presented by Dr Wilf McSherry, Professor in Dignity of Care for Older People at Staffordshire University.
RCN Shropshire half-day Local Learning Event - 'Leadership and emotional resilience' and 'Breaking barriers and changing lives' workshops

Starts: 12.30pm
Venue: The Redwoods Centre, Somerby Drive, Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, SY3 8DS
Dr Peter Carter, RCN Chief Executive and General Secretary, will be delivering a keynote speech, while Ian Govier, Associate Consultant with RCN Consultancy, will be giving a presentation on leadership and emotional resilience. Finally, Nursing Standard’s Nurse of the Year 2012 Johanne Tomlinson will be talking about her work in the criminal justice setting. This event is free to both members and non-members, so please feel free to invite your colleagues along.
RCN Shropshire members' meeting and 'Pressure ulcer prevention and harm-free care' workshop

This workshop will be presented by Joy Tickle, Community Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist, Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, and will be followed by an RCN Shropshire members’ meeting.
RCN Shropshire Annual General Meeting and Local Learning Event

The topic for this Local Learning Event is to be confirmed. The workshop will be followed by an RCN Shropshire Annual General Meeting, where members will be able to:
- contribute to discussions about the branch's priorities for the coming year
- elect the branch executive committee
- ratify the accreditation of local RCN representatives
Any member can stand for election to a position on the branch executive committee, and if they are elected they will play a leading role in the organisation and development of the RCN's services and activities in Shropshire. All branch members are invited to attend.
