Yorkshire & the Humber representatives' learning and development 2012-2013

Module one
Within three months of accrediting you as a new representative, we will send you an offer of a place on module one (foundation module) by post. As well as the offer letter, you should receive the 2012-2013 Learning and Development Pathway (PDF 1.24MB) and the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Information Pack (Word 131KB) which provides details of regional contacts and your allocated mentor. Your mentor, usually an RCN officer and the Learning and Development Facilitator will work with you to provide individualised support which you will need to become an effective, competent and confident representative. You will need to contact them to introduce yourself and decide how you are going to work together as part of the representative's learning and development programme.
Administration for module one (foundation module) of the learning and development programme for representatives in the Yorkshire & Humber region is the responsibility of Jo Magras. If you require further information please contact Jo on 0113 386 0501 or at joanne.magras@rcn.org.uk.
Module two
You will need to discuss with your mentor which course is most suitable for you. To apply for any of these courses you need to complete the nomination form (Word 39.5KB) which should then be sent to Jo Magras, Team Administrator at the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Office for sign off by your mentor. The form can be sent either by:

Once authorised the form will then be sent to Pam D'Silva, Learning and Development Administrator, RCN West Midlands Office, Birmingham. You will then receive a letter confirming your place and further information about the course. Please note although forms are to be sent to Jo Magras in the first instance, all queries relating to your chosen course should be directed to Pam D'Silva. CPD and Branch Development Programme
Experienced representatives can undertake further learning and development through CPD and Branch Development Programme (PDF 0.99MB). Details and dates (Word 106KB are now available. Places are limited and available to representatives by nomination only. Once complete the nomination form (Word 39.5KB) will need to be sent to Jo Magras, Regional Administrator, Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Office for sign off by your mentor. Once authorised the form will then be sent to Pam D'Silva, Learning and Development Administrator, RCN West Midlands Office, Birmingham. A letter of confirmation will then be sent to you if you have gained a place, along with further information about the programme.
Additional information
Where the RCN has a recognition agreement, accredited representatives have a legal entitlement to reasonable paid time off for trade union duties, including learning and development. All course costs will be met by the RCN, including meals and travel if you meet the criteria outlined in the RCN expenses policy (Word 52KB). Should you meet the criteria you will need to complete the travel expense form (Excel 45.0KB) which will need to be signed off.

If you are unable to take up a place on a course you have booked, please contact Jo Magras, Team Administrator in the RCN Yorkshire & the Humber Region immediately, so that we can offer the place to another person, or avoid paying significant cancellation charges.
