Task and Finish Group – NHS Working Longer Review
The Membership & Representation Committee is establishing a new Task and Finish Group to focus on a key aspect of the proposed changes to the NHS Pension Scheme.
The NHS Pension Scheme proposed Final Agreement will set the Normal Pension Age at the same age as the State Pension Age (SPA). This means that by 2046 the normal pension age in the NHS will be 68 for all staff and will rise if the SPA rises.
The RCN’s position is to oppose the extension of the pension age to 68. At the same time, increasing numbers of our members are seeking later retirement. The work of this Task and Finish Group will highlight the impact of working beyond 60 but also identify good employment and pensions practice for those who choose to work longer. Details of how to join the Group can be found at the bottom of this page.
The NHS Working Longer Review
The NHS Working Longer Review is a tripartite partnership group between nationally recognised NHS Trade Unions, NHS employers and health department representatives set up to consider the implications of a raised retirement age for staff, service provision and employers. The review will look in particular at the following –
- Data and evidence on the impact of working beyond 60
- Good employment practice and career pathways necessary to support an ageing workforce
- How pension scheme flexibilities and the concept of total reward may support an extended working life.
Further information about the review can be found here - http://www.nhsemployers.org/PAYANDCONTRACTS/NHSPENSIONSCHEMEREVIEW/IMPACTOFWORKINGLONGERREVIEW/Pages/NHSWorkingLongerReview.aspx
