Gareth Phillips

As a lead steward, board and council member for the RCN for the last 8 years I have an understanding of member representation across the spectrum, from minor issues to the most complex governance.  As a result, on a strategic and political basis my persistent lobbying of the Assembly for fair implementation of AFC resulted in the Jenkins report and the setting up of the all Wales monitoring group.

I have the same understanding of HERA in HE's and its associated issues.
We are in the throes of an economic downturn. As a result of my extensive understanding of financial constraints in the workplace I have the skills to contribute to RCN initiatives on protecting pensions and incomes and resources to care for our patients.

As your current council member I have insight into the issues of the challenges  maintaining a 4 country perspective on RCN initiatives The 4 health systems continue to diverge, I understand this and am a persistent voice for it's recognition.
The RCN evolves.  The transition to the RCN Charter body and foundation are approaching. With my skills of governance I will play my part in ensuring a smooth transition to this new structure which benefits Nursing and all of the nursing family.
As your council member I believe governance with honesty and integrity must steer the RCN in the protection of nursing and the nursing family. This above all equips me to serve as your council member for a further 4 years.
