Lorrae Allford
I have been a member of the RCN since my nurse training in 1976. During this time I have promoted the RCN to others, for the support and guidance it has given me to improve patient care and working conditions for its members.
I am employed as a Senior Sister in Emergency Care, Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Sexual Health Advisor at the Royal United Hospital Bath. During my nursing career, I have also cared for patients in acute medicine, surgery, theatres and the private sector.
My role as a Health and Safety Representative and RCN Convenor at the hospital keeps me at the frontline and in close contact with the members and the daily pressures staff face. Representing, advising and supporting them.
I currently represent the Bath Branch on the South West Regional Board, which has involved attended the meeting with the Strategic Health Authority to discuss the development of Social Partnership Working, improving staff and management relationships, to improve working conditions.
During my time as an Activist, I have been able to develop and face the challenges that the rapidly changing healthcare system presents us all with and I'm currently undertaking the RCN Political Leadership Programme, which will be of considerable benefit in the role of Council Member.
The skills I have developed during my nursing career and as an RCN Activist have prepared me for RCN Council, and my full commitment to the role, will ensure the needs specific to the South West's members diverse nature are met.
