Marcia Turnham
I have been an active member of the RCN for over fourteen years, and a Steward for thirteen. In 2005 I was elected as Council member representing the Eastern Region.
I my Council role I
- Chaired the Eastern Region Board.
- Represent the RCN at Regional and National events
- Participate in work with the Strategic Health Authority around the role of the modern matron.
- Sit on the Audit Committee
- Am Vice Chair the Nursing Development Committee
- Am Council link for the Learning Representatives National Committee.
These roles have allowed me to develop valuable insight into current political, social and economic issues that are affecting Nursing, and the RCN, at a strategic level, in the 21st Century.
I have used this knowledge to help form opinions and contribute to the work of the RCN around congress items and the Nutrition and Dignity campaigns. I have contributed to the RCN's decision making process at a time of great change. I promote these changes to the wider membership at Regional and Board level receiving direct feedback from grassroots members, which I have fed back into Council and committee meetings.
The RCN has helped me develop valuable negotiation and influencing skills which I use in my work life and in the Council/Regional RCN work I have undertaken. I therefore, fulfill the role requirements of Council Member.
