Roderick Nisbet

A registered Mental Health Nurse since 1990, working in Fife since August of that year, I became a full member of the RCN at that time. In 1996 I was accredited as a Steward and, around a year later, as a Safety Rep. I became active within the Branch and served for a time as Lead Steward before becoming Scottish Board Member for Fife for 6 years. As a Board Member I led for a time on Mental Health issues and represented the RCN during the development of the new Mental Health Act, sitting in the reference group for 2 years. I was an early member and first Chair of "PACT", RCN Scotland's Political Action and Campaign Team working with Policy, Media and Communications staff and members, coordinating and developing political awareness and lobbying and forging lasting relationships with MSPs and other politicians to further the aims of the RCN and Nursing in the political arena. I also helped to organise member and activist events and conferences in Scotland. Locally I served as staff side Chair of my CHP and participated in several area and local forums and sub-groups at both strategic and operational level. A regular attendee at Congress over 13 years, I was elected to the Agenda Committee in 2005 for a period of 2 years. I relish this opportunity to further serve RCN members within Scotland and the UK as a member of Council.
