Sally Selvey
I have been an RCN member since 1981 when I commenced by RGN training. Following my completion of my RMN I then became an RCN activist both as a steward and a health and safety representative.
At present I am a full time Lead RCN representative at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. Last year I was elected as nurse governor. I attribute this to my reputation of being outspoken, honest and direct in my role.
Over the years I have served on and Chaired the National Stewards Committee and participated in working groups such as the Employment Policy Committee.
Throughout my time as an activist I have had the opportunity to be seconded to the regional offices of the RCN gaining a regional perspective of issues relating to membership.
I believe that the RCN strategic plan should help shape and strengthen the organisation so that remains an influential force responsive to its membership.
Outside work and participating in the work of the RCN I did take an active part in my local village Carnival committee I particularly enjoyed making a difference for the vulnerable and promoting a community spirit.
When national campaigns have been launched that involve lobbying MPs I have always seen the value of raising the issues personally.
