Nominated by: Billy Drysdale and Neil Anderson (Cumbria Branch)
I have been active within the RCN since 1987, as a steward and health & safety representative, lately concentrating on the stewards role, representing locally, regionally and nationally, serving two full terms on the UK stewards committee, chairing the committee for the latter part of my term of office.
To have the opportunity to be elected by members to serve on council will be a privilege; it is an opportunity to become even more committed to the RCN and to influence the future direction, helping to push the nursing agenda forward as the NHS faces cuts and restructuring, nursing staff across the UK face their biggest challenge for many years.
I want to ensure that members have the support they need to continue to provide high standards of evidence based nursing care, making every effort to make improvements in patient care for all. As a deputy ward sister practicing within an acute medical ward for the older person, I am passionate and driven about facilitating the essential elements of nursing to our rapidly ageing population with increasing health care needs.
