As a new Council member Gareth feels he has been elected at a crucial time in the nursing professions evolution and says we may look back in 20 years and see this as a watershed where nursing defined its direction. He feels it is an honour and privilege to be part of that change and to be able to have the opportunity to have a role in all aspects of the profession.
In the early seventies Gareth trained initially in East Glamorgan Hospital in South Wales and says a highly rewarding area was a post in a support bed unit in the University town of Bangor. Although it was a relatively junior post at the time it was probably the most rewarding in terms of professional satisfaction. Gareth is very interested in the use of IT at local level as well as national to enhance communication between all RCN members and activists.
Gareth feels that is a natural step for him to be a Council Member as it allows him to move onto even more challenging roles.
