Professor Jennifer Hunt
MPhil, RGN, BA(Hons), FRCN
Professor Jennifer Hunt is an innovator, facilitator and leader. She is an expert in nursing research and management and her interests include consultancy; writing; and the relationship between nurses, nursing and outcomes. She has excelled in the clinical application of research findings, and in demonstrating to nurse practitioners the relevance and usefulness of nursing research to their role as clinicians.
Many of the senior posts that Jennifer has held have been newly established or undergoing considerable change and she has relished the challenge and opportunity of giving them substance. Because few of these posts have had managerial authority, Jennifer’s considerable leadership skills have enabled her to achieve agreed objectives by developing enthusiasm and commitment among staff through teaching, persuasion and example.
Jennifer is most proud of developing the initial concept for the Royal Marsden Clinical Policy and Procedure Manual, of successfully establishing the Nursing Research Initiative for Scotland, and of being the first nurse member of the Audit Commission.
Some key figures who encouraged her in her career include Marjorie Simpson in nursing research; Brysson Whyte, Kate Bennet, Bob Tiffany and Luther Christman in nursing; and Tom Peters and Peter Drucker in management and leadership.
Her vision for the future places nursing as the major input to changing outcomes, and nurses with the power to take financial control.
Jenny lives in Hertfordshire and is Visiting Professor at the Institute of Health Research, University of Luton.
