Professor David Jones

OBE RN FRCN

David Jones is a registered nurse who retired as Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Sheffield in 1998 and has subsequently been made Emeritus Professor of Nursing.

His areas of specialism centred on the management of nursing services and the development of nursing education. His clinical interest was focused on the care of older people.

David was most influenced in his career by former RCN General Secretary Dame Catherine Hall. However, as most nurses will understand, he says that his prime motivation for the first 20 years of his career was to ensure that his income enabled him to support a large family!

A Welsh speaker, he counts establishing the Welsh National Board for Nursing Midwifery and Health Visiting among his proudest achievements and also feels privileged to have been able to support the career aspirations of colleagues during his long career.

Although retired from the world of active nursing, David retains an interest in nurse education, care of older people and politics in health care. He lists his personal interests as local politics and Welsh affairs, gardening and relaxing!

He lives in Carrog, Corwen.
