International advisory group

The international advisory group will:

  • Advise Council on international affairs and how the RCN can best input to public health and nursing standards globally.
    inform the development of the International Strategy.
  • Have a long term horizon scanning role to inform RCN Council Committees of major priorities from an European/international perspective.
  • Provide a focus that enables the RCN to tap into the networks of international expertise both externally and in the RCN membership.

Terms of reference

The role and main responsibilities of the group are to:

  • advise Council on international affairs and how the RCN can best input to public health and nursing standards globally
  • inform the development of the International Strategy.
  • have a long term horizon scanning role to inform RCN council committees of major priorities from an European/international perspective
  • provide a focus that enables the RCN to tap into the networks of international expertise both externally and in the RCN membership.

Reporting

The work of the international advisory group will be issues based and enable European/international priorities to be built in the work programme of the relevant council committee

Membership

  • Chaired by the President who is governance lead for international nursing issues.
  • Deputy President
  • A representative of each of the council committee
  • Members with an understanding of international health policy and nursing or with significant experience of working in other countries or at international level.
  • External Advisers with specialist expertise in priority areas identified by the advisory group.

Meetings will be twice a year

Ways of working

  • There will be an annual networking meeting.
  • Small specialist groups will work up position papers on specific issues and the implications for nursing for submission to the appropriate Committee.
