RCN Benefits
Full details of entitlements will be provided with an offer of employment. Below is a summary of some of the benefits the organisation offers staff. This is in addition to any statutory benefits staff may be entitled to.
Hours
The RCN standard hours are 35 hours per week.
Holidays
Our holiday entitlement is very competitive commencing with 28 days per annum, and extra days are awarded in relation to length of service (to maximum of 32 days after 2 years service).
Pension
As an employee RCN offers you the opportunity to join The RCN Pension Scheme. The scheme operates on a Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) basis and has a choice of benefit and contribution levels.
The RCN pension scheme provides benefits on the following basis:
- Normal Retirement Age (NRA) of 65
- Accrual rates of 1/60th or 1/70th at the choice of the member
- Benefits to be based on career-average revalued earnings (CARE) basis
- Revaluation of accumulated benefits at RPI capped at 5% per annum
Contribution and benefit options
Employees can choose from the following contribution and benefit options:
| CARE Benefit Basis | Employee contribution rate (% pensionable salary) NRA 65 |
|---|---|
| Accrual Rate 1/60th | 5.7% |
| Accrual Rate 1/70th | 2.8% |
Members are entitled to switch between the 1/70ths and 1/60ths benefit scale on any scheme anniversary (1 April).
The actual contribution will be lower as you will get tax relief and pay reduced National Insurance contributions. Your final pension will obviously depend on the level of contributions you make during your employment.
Staff not eligible to join the scheme will be offered an alternative stakeholder pension scheme.
Interest Free Loans
To help spread the cost of your journeys into work, we offer interest free loans. You may also be eligible for a career development loan.
Childcare Vouchers
The RCN offers eligible staff childcare vouchers through a salary sacrifice (sometimes called salary substitution) scheme. Childcare vouchers are not subject to National Insurance and therefore some staff may be able to save on their childcare costs, although the level is dependent on your gross salary.
Maternity Leave
The RCN offers an enhanced Maternity policy (dependent on length of service) which includes a generous combination of paid and unpaid leave.
