Practice nurse appraisal resource pack

Appraisal is an invaluable tool in maintaining a happy and productive workforce. It provides an opportunity to clarify roles and expectations, set aims and objectives, reinforce a job well done, initiate change and foster healthy working relationships. The approach adopted by employers and the value they place on their appraisal process is crucial to improving quality of care and staff motivation.

In response to an identified need, articulated both by nurses and general practitioners, RCN Northern Ireland has developed a practice nurse appraisal resource pack in partnership with the following stakeholders:

  • Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council [NIPEC]
  • Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency
  • Northern Health and Social Services Board
  • Eastern Health and Social Services Board
  • Western Health and Social Services Board
  • Southern Health and Social Services Board.

The resource pack is designed to help practice nurses and their employing practice ensure that they are supported and developed in their role. It provides a framework to assist the practice nurse and the appraiser in areas such as appraisal preparation, the appraisal meeting, the appraisal action plan and providing evidence of continuing professional development. The forms required to assist the practice nurse and the appraiser are also included in the pack.
