Research and Development Governance Group
This group ensures good governance of all research activity in the RCN, allocating funds and making sure that research is effective and helps the RCN meet its strategic objectives. The group reports to NPPC.
Key responsibilities are:
- to conduct regular reviews of the effectiveness of the research & development governance and working arrangements
- to monitor and evaluate the performance of the Research Society & other R&D groups to ensure that governance and financial stewardship guidance is complied with and that their annual work plan is delivered
- to allocate RCN funds to Research & Development projects and ensure that these projects are managed and delivered in accordance with the agreed brief and timescales
Members of the committee were appointed in October 2010. The members are:
- Chair - Professor Sue Bale, Assistant Nurse Director and Visiting Professor University of Glamorgan
- Helen Allbutt, Lead for Research Governance NHS Education for Scotland
- Clair Chatterton, Chair of the History of Nursing Society
- Leslie Gelling, Senior Research Fellow, Faculty of Health and Social Care, Anglia Ruskin University
- Ruth Norway, Chair of the Research Society
- Magi Sque, Professor of Clinical Practice and Innovation, University of Wolverhampton and The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust
- Annie Topping, Professor of Nursing, Director of the Centre for Health & Social Care Research, University of Huddersfield
- Alison Twycross, Reader in Children's Nursing, Kingston University and St George's University of London
- Hamish Kemp, RCN Council Member, North West region (appointed November 2011)
