Anne is a paediatric staff nurse having started her career as a children's nurse in 1973. She worked as General Manager, Children's Services at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust completing her managerial career as General Manager for Children, Clinical and Support services. She also has an MA in Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care.

Anne became an RCN activist in 1980 and has recently returned to an activist role as an RCN Steward and branch chair. She is also a board member of the RCN Field of Practice, Children and Young People on the Yorkshire & the Humber Board.
