Long Term Conditions Adviser

Trained in the Queen Alexander Royal Army Nursing Corps as a Registered Nurse and then after serving for a year post qualification left to undertake a Theatre Nursing Course. Worked in various acute settings and then left the NHS to work for Outward Bound in the Lake District, including Mountain rescue. Undertook District Nursing training in 1985 and worked in the Community in various parts of the UK. Recalled to the Army for Gulf War one and on return took up a management post in the Community. Subsequent career has included training as an Aromatherapist and setting up my own business. Working in Social Services setting up a Reablement team and more recently for the last 7 years setting up and managing a multidisciplinary Rapid Response, rehabilitation and reablement team in a PCT – joint Health and Social Care, supporting people to live independently in the community. I joined the Royal College of Nursing in October 2010 and am working with a number of patient organisations, other Royal Colleges and nurses to ensure that people living with Long Term Conditions are given the information and training to make choices about where and how they want to live supported by appropriate, competent staff.
