RCN Representative of the Year Awards

Top tips for submitting a nomination

The entry deadline is a deadline, not a target

Start the process early. Give yourself plenty of time to adequately prepare the nomination. If you think a representative deserves to be recognised, make sure they’re in with a chance. Any nominations received after the deadline will not be entered into the process.

Sell it to the judges

Treat your nomination as a business proposal and sell your nominee’s outstanding achievements, behaviours and ways of working to the judges. Like any good proposal, keep it focused and logical – make sure everything in it is relevant to helping the judges understand and appreciate the reasons for your nomination.

Where is the evidence?

Don’t submit nominations where the reasons for doing so can’t be qualified. Such submissions would be better deferred for another year when you have more information to provide.

Answer the question

Structure your response thoughtfully and focus on the main points you need to get across so that you make the most of the word count. Structure the supporting statement in line with what the judges are looking for and provide evidence to illustrate your points. It may be useful to check if you’ve covered the four Ws – what, where, when, why – to ensure you’ve incorporated all the details.

Do your nominee proud

Help the judges understand the personality of your nominee – this helps them to better understand your entry. Try to make sure your entry is a compelling read for all the judges.

Feel free to nominate more than once

You can enter as many nominations as you wish. Just make sure you fill in a separate form for each nomination.
