RCN Wales Education Adviser
As the RCN Wales Education Adviser, Judith Benbow acts as the staff link for the RCN Wales student forum. She describes the forum as "a real active undergraduate group", which includes representatives from all five universities and all branches and organises professional events specifically geared for students, and "a fabulous way to share experiences and develop personally and professionally."
New forum members are welcome, so get in touch now: email Judith.benbow@rcn.org.uk.
Wales Healthcare Students Forum
Here, Dawn Hill, an RCN mental health branch student from Bangor University, talks about the Wales Healthcare Students Forum.
“I am one of 20 students on the forum, an exiting initiative, funded by the Welsh assembly Government, to identify, share and discuss important issues for health care students in Wales and look for solutions that will improve the student experience.
The forum includes representatives from all the health care professions, including nursing representatives from each branch of nursing, and the four schools of nursing in Wales. We meet every academic term to network, discuss pertinent issues and develop political awareness.
“And once a year we have the opportunity to meet with the Minister for Health and Social Services, currently Brian Gibbons, to discuss student issues and directly influence health and social policy.”
Find out more about the forum in the Learning Laboratory section of the National Leadership and Innovation Agency for Healthcare website.
