Independent sector

The role of the independent sector advisor is to provide professional advice and support to all local RCN members working in the independent sector.

Another important part of the job is establishing links and networks with members and other key organisations in the independent sector in Wales.

The introduction of the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Care Homes (Wales) Regulations 2002 gives a statutory responsibility to ensure the National Minimum Standards are complied with. These standards provide nurses with a framework for practice within a care home setting.

The aim of the RCN is to keep members up to date with policy changes and provide CPD in the light of these changes.

To ensure that the RCN represents the views of its members, building networks within independent sector is vital to the success of the role of adviser; however this interaction needs to be a two way process.
