Our purpose, vision and values
To define our purpose, vision and values we have incorporated a core competency framework. The competencies are called ‘core’ because they support the declared mission, values, and strategy of the RCN and are applicable to all staff in the organisation.
The six core competency areas are:
-
leading the way
-
respecting each other
-
focusing on members and customers
-
working as one
-
being a business
-
embracing change.
Each of the core competencies is made up of behavioural indicators. The indicators are a number of statements that explain behaviours the RCN expects to see in someone performing well.
Our person specifications outline the RCN core competencies which relate to specific roles. These are key behavioural areas which we identify as needing from our staff in order to be an effective membership organisation. We will be looking for evidence of these behaviours and the specified relevant skills and knowledge throughout the selection process.
As an employee at the Royal College of Nursing you would be supported by your manager to develop these behaviours in your day to day activities.
Our core competencies are part of our recruitment and selection processes, induction, performance appraisal process and learning and development. In fact, they will be integrated into everything that we do.
