Learning and development

Your learning and development

Our staff are our greatest asset so we invest heavily in learning and development. All of our learning and development is centered on enabling individuals to achieve their full potential in relation to our core competencies.

We offer a wide range of courses, development programmes and online learning. We also provide development opportunities through coaching, shadowing, mentoring, secondments and team development days.

We also have a corporate development panel offering the opportunity to gain 50 per cent funding support for professional, academic and vocational qualifications.

At the RCN we have a comprehensive Appraisals process where appropriate objectives are agreed to helps employees to focus on specific tasks and goals.

These fantastic opportunities have meant that we have recently been awarded the Investors in People Standard.

Investors in People

Investors in People

The Royal College of Nursing has been awarded Investors in People accreditation. Being awarded the Investors in People recognition mark is a great achievement. The Investors in People Standard is a national UK framework and is a standard of good practice in developing people intended to be achievable by all organisations. It enables organisations to benchmark their own practices against a nationally recognised standard.

Induction

We have a very comprehensive induction programme for all new employees. We will ensure that a local induction programme is planned so that a new member of staff is familiar with their environment and establishes relationships to allow them to settle into their role. We also have a two day corporate induction programme.

All new employees are subject to a six month probationary period during which they will be introduced to the main duties and responsibilities of their post, the performance standards expected of them, the colleagues with whom they will be working most closely and the context of their work, within the department and RCN as a whole.
