International Agency for Research on Cancer
This is the website of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) which is part of the World Health Organization.
IARC's mission is "to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and to develop scientific strategies for cancer control. The IARC is involved in both epidemiological and laboratory research and disseminates scientific information through publications, meetings, courses, and fellowships".
The website - which supports, promotes and presents the findings of this activity - is a wealth of information, and would be well worth a visit, and adding to your favourites list. As well as providing detailed information on cancer incidence in Europe, by each individual state, links to Globocan and the Eurocare study make available data discussing survival. The WHO Mortality database offers material such as charts and tables, which are free to download - useful for teaching sessions, presentations or assignments. Various technical reports such as scientific evaluations of the carcinogenic risk of tobacco, or chemical pollutants are available, and these pages seem to be updated reasonably regularly (or at least within a few months, and presumably dependent upon research findings being released). The press release pages, however, definitely list contemporary matters and make this site a useful way to keep up to date.
