Disabled Children’s Charter for Health and Wellbeing Boards
On Thursday 25th April, Every Disabled Child Matters (EDCM) and The Children’s Trust, Tadworth launched a Disabled Children’s Charter for Health and Wellbeing Boards.
Health and Wellbeing Boards are important new bodies that play a key role in the new health system. They bring together key leaders from across health and social care to work together to improve the health and wellbeing of their local population and reduce health inequalities. The Charter has been developed to support Health and Wellbeing Boards meet their responsibilities towards disabled children, young people and their families, including children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and health conditions.
Meeting the needs of these children and young people will represent a crucial test for the new health system, because they require exactly the kind of joined-up approach promised by the health reforms. If Health and Wellbeing Boards can deliver for disabled children and young people, they can deliver for all children and young people and make a positive impact throughout their lives.
Signatories will be asked to provide evidence of how they have met each of the 7 commitments a year after signing the Charter. Supporters of EDCM and The Children’s Trust, Tadworth are writing to their Health and Wellbeing Board Chairs urging them to sign the Charter.
