Early Support resources updated, revised and adapted for use with older children

Published: 22 February 2013

The Early Support information resources have been updated and adapted for use with older children and are available as downloads at:
http://www.ncb.org.uk/early-support/resources

The materials help when families or young people are looking for accurate information about specific conditions or elements of additional support, and can help nurses and others answer some of the questions they may be asked around the time of diagnosis or later on.

The new information resources cover a range of topics including:

• Autistic Spectrum Disorder
• speech, language and communication
• visual impairment
• neurological disorders
• multi-sensory impairment
• rare conditions
• sleep
• people you may meet
• living without a diagnosis.

Updated information about deafness, cerebral palsy, behaviour, learning difficulties and down syndrome will be available shortly.

Web-based versions of the new information resources augmented by photographs, diagrams and film footage are also in development for use with other Early Support resources including an Early Support app, which will be available soon.

Early Support is a core delivery partner for implementing the strategy detailed in Support and aspiration: A new approach to special educational needs and disability, the Government’s 2011 Green Paper. The new information resources are the latest edition of materials first developed with parents and voluntary organizations by Early Support in 2004.
