Forum purpose and objectives
This forum supports members in delivering nursing care for children and young people with complex and continuing care needs that is seamless across all settings promoting integration of care through multi-professional and multi-agency networks and inclusion in family life and society.
Purpose
- To provide an expert resource.
- To influence current and future health and social policy in the UK and beyond.
- To advise (rather than support) RCN Council.
- To shape, drive and develop nursing practice.
- To help members enhance and develop their practice knowledge and skill.
- To generate nurse leaders in their field.
- To provide networking opportunities.

Key objectives
2010-2011
Objective 1: Informing and influencing transforming community services, including related workforce and education issues.
Objective 2: Harnessing and sustaining the energy behind Aiming High (and equivalent) initiatives.
Objective 3: Building on the Child Health Strategy (and equivalents).
Objective 4: Public sector financing and impact on children and young peoples continuing and community care.
Objective 5: Post registration education provision to ensure a workforce fit for purpose to deliver children and young people's continuing and community care.

Objective 1: Getting established
- Articulate in a simple way exactly what the RCN Continuing and Community Care Forum is about.
- Influence wider health and political perspectives.
- What do our members want and need from the forum.
Objective 2: Communication and engagement with the membership
- Support the development of an easily accessible web-based resource.
- Develop a robust communication strategy.
- Develop means of disseminating what is out there (training/development).
- Facilitating the networking of the communities, ensuring that their voice is represented.
Objective 3: Being recognised and valued
- Identify nurse leaders in the field and capture their expertise.
- Working respectfully (two-way) with the RCN.
