- Advise (rather than support) RCN Council
- Shape, drive and develop nursing practice
- Help members enhance and develop their practice knowledge and skills
- Generate nurse leaders in their field
- Provide networking opportunities

2009-2010
Objective 1: Getting established
- Articulate in a simple way exactly what the Staying Healthy Forum is about
- Influence wider health and political perspectives
- What do our members want and need from the Forum?
Objective 2: Communication and engagement with the membership
- Support the development of an easily accessible web-based resource
- Develop a robust communication strategy
- Develop means of disseminating what is out there (training/development)
- Facilitating the networking of the communities, ensuring that their voice is represented
Objective 3: Being recognised and valued
- Identify nurse leaders in the field and capture their expertise
- Working respectfully (two-way) with the RCN
2010-2011
Objective 1: Commission an analysis of how children and young people are treated across the UK to highlight differences and inequities, while acknowledging their health needs and aspirations
