Jessica Higson

Sister, Ambulatory Care, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.

Jessica is newly appointed (January 2012) as Sister of the Ambulatory Care Unit in the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.  She manages the Day Bed Unit (day surgery and day medicine), Children’s Outpatient Department and Child Development Centre. 

For the last 5 years, Jessica has worked as one of the team of Advanced Children’s Nurse Practitioners at Oxford Children’s Hospital. This role covered the Day Unit and Outpatient Department and included pre-operative assessment of children for Day Surgery, as well as prescribing, venepuncture, cannulation and managing the care of medical patients. 

Previous RCN work – Jessica was vice Chair of the Association of Nursing Students 1995-1997 and an NMC member of Council 1997-2001.

Jessica is particularly interested in Advanced Nursing Practice and Nursing Leadership.
