This Community supports all members who provide specialist nursing to Children and Young People with Cancer
Purpose
- Be a professional voice for all nurses working with children and young people who have cancer and their families.
- Will encompass the aims and objectives of the allied groups within the community - Bone Marrow Transplant, Nurse Educators, Oncology Outreach Nurses and Research Group
- Facilitate collaboration and coordination in a common work plan that brings together the needs and expertise of all elements within the CYP Cancer Nursing Community.
- Provide networking opportunities for nurses working with children and young people with cancer.
- Help members to enhance and develop their practice knowledge and skills.
- Work with medical colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team within the specialty to develop shared objectives and strategies for influencing health provision and health service policy in cancer care for children and young people.
- Work with external agencies and voluntary sector partners to ensure that the needs of children and young people with cancer and their families are addressed.
- Advise, influence and inform the CYP Specialist Care Forum of the specific issues in the care of children and young people with cancer.
- Work with the other communities of the CYP Specialist Care Forum in collaborative projects.
Objectives
2009-2010
- Completion of consensus document on nutrition
- Completion of competencies for working within CYP cancer
- Complete a successful conference in July 2009
- Develop a new way of working within the new community set up and engaging with the specialist groups within the community
- Feed into the CYP Specialist Care Forum
2010-2011
- This will depend on the project bids accepted this year and the work that comes out of these days.
For Forum
- To provide input from the CYP Specialist Care Forum to the work being undertaken to revise the document on Services for children and young people: preparing nurses for future roles.
