Purpose and objectives
The purpose and objectives of the Children and Young People: Specialist Care Forum are outlined below.
Purpose
- To provide links and information to enable nurses to find out about education courses and modules relating to working with children and young yeople with diabetes.
- To utilise evidence-based research to inform and share best practice
- To provide an expert consensus to inform local and national guidance for children and young people with diabetes.
- To promote collaborative working with other professional bodies, stakeholders, charities and organisations.
- To offer advice and support through networking with other nurses caring for children and young yeople with diabetes and their families.
- To advocate optimal care for children and young yeople with diabetes whether this is at home or in the wider community.
- To advocate for all children’s diabetes services to be working towards providing the same standards of care for children and young yeople.
- To continue to work with RCN children and young yeople forums on collaborative projects.
Objectives
- To explore the impact the Best Practice Tariff (BPT) has on diabetes teams and service provision in England, to promote equality in service provision across all teams.
- To support and direct children’s diabetes nurse specialists to ongoing educational opportunities, ensuring that courses for training and developing nurses are quality-assured and have national accreditation.
- To continue to develop and update relevant RCN documents.
- To continue be involved with the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit.
- To continue our involvement with the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (BSPED) to bring about a successful conference in 2013
- To work collaboratively with NHS diabetes to further develop the diabetes peer review process.
- To continue to be involved in children and young people diabetes networks nationally and regionally.
- To attend RCN Congress, the Diabetes UK (DUK) Professional Conference 2013 and other professional conferences to raise the profile of children and young people, both with diabetes and in general, within the RCN and at a national level
- To participate in DUK programme development
