Shire Innovation Fund
Shire Pharmaceuticals is pleased to announce that it is extending the Shire Innovation Fund for inflamatory bowel disease (IBD) nurses to include continence advisers in bowel disorders.
The Shire Innovation Fund, which was launched in March 2009, supports nurses working in IBD and bowel continence disorders who want to develop their services.
Applicants can apply for grants of up to a maximum of £1,500 for nurse-led projects which further medical care for patients.

RCN Foundation bursary schemes
Two bursaries under the RCN Foundation are currently accepting applications.
The Professional Bursary Scheme provides individual bursaries of up to £5,000 to support recipients to develop their practice and provide them with the skills to deliver the very best possible advice, support and care to patients.
In this call for applications, the RCN Foundation has dedicated £60,000 to the enhancement of care practice in the UK in the following areas:
- care of older people
- care of patients with dementia
- primary care nurse development
- care of people with long term/chronic conditions with a particular focus on obesity and diabetes.
Applications for The Professional Bursary Scheme close on 9 November 2012.
If you’re a recently qualified nurse who was, as a student member of the RCN, actively involved in the work of the RCN, you could apply for the Kershaw Educational Bursary for recently qualified nurses.
Sponsored by a grant from Professor Dame Betty Kershaw and her family, the funding can be used to fund course modules, attendance at an accredited conference, a contribution to degree fees or a professional visit.
Applications for the Kershaw Educational Bursary close on 1 November 2012.
