Conference report: Non-medical prescribers in diabetes network

Published: 04 November 2009

Jill Hill, Chair of the network, stayed a little closer to home when she attended this annual meeting in Birmingham.

The last of our three annual meetings was held on 8 October at the NEC in Birmingham, clashing with the Horse of the Year Show!

We had a fun day with a very interesting talk on the management options for erectile dysfunction, a "spot the diagnosis and what would you prescribe for it" foot session, and a practical session on identifying those funny rashes that people with diabetes get and their treatments.

Molly Courtenay gave an overview of some her latest research into the prescribing practice of nurses in diabetes, and I finished with clarifying the scare earlier this year about glargine insulin and cancer risk, based on four papers which appeared in Diabetologia in June.

Nurses from secondary and primary care attended the meeting and it is always interesting to about the good practice shared by these nurses and also the barriers and difficulties that sometimes have to be faced. Anyone who is interested in joining the group, please contact Nicola Carey on n.carey@surrey.ac.uk

We have three meetings a year and quarterly newsletters with all the latest research around diabetes medications that we are using. Dates for our 2010 meetings are:
