Nursing in the home

Published: 08 December 2011

Innovative district nurses often carry out sophisticated tasks in challenging locations, but professional compassion remains at the core of what we do.

That was a central message in a new report from the Queen’s Nursing Institute looking into the reasons why there has been a loss of skills in the community. It highlights a lack of understanding by commissioners about the changing needs of an older population and how best to meet them.

At he launch in November Baroness Julia Cumberledge FRCN said: “This report shows that what patients value most are the attributes of skilled and experienced community nurses, the ability to assess unexpected situations, co-ordinate services and answer questions about treatment.”
