Anne Corrin

Biography

I qualified as a registered general nurse in 1984 and since then have worked in both in the NHS and private sector in acute care and primary care, including practice nursing and health visiting. As an educationalist, I have worked in both further and higher education.

I am currently a senior lecturer at the University of Essex, with responsibility for the BSc in Health Care Practice degree. This consists of several CPD modules, including mentorship preparation; foundation degrees in adult and mental health, and an MSc Nursing (Adult) course - among other miscellaneous roles.

I am also studying for a professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care Education, which has involved completing projects on mentorship curriculum development, online mentorship updates and service user involvement in health care education. My research interests lie in nurse education, particularly curriculum development, and the philosophy of nurse education.

Working at national level

I wanted to be part of the Education Forum steering committee as I believe that good quality education and training is crucial to nursing and to patient care.

The recent government proposals to reform the NHS worried me greatly as it appeared that nursing and nurse education were being sidelined and I felt that I wanted to be actively involved in the RCN to ensure the voice of nurses and nurse educationalists is heard at a national level.

In the future, I hope to establish better links with my education colleagues in the Eastern region – both in practice and in universities – in order to bring their views to the national debate.
